Pastoral Support

Pastoral care is a provision schools make to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of their pupils.

At St Barnabas' Primary School, pastoral support is so important and at the heart of all that we do. Each and every staff member understands how a pupil's emotional wellbeing can adversely affect mental health.

Our staff are supportive, sensitive and aware of pupils' feelings and needs and always strive to support them pastorally, whether that be through supportive dialogue, sharing with parents and carers, time with SLT or our SENCo or other sessions and therapies. Our church and Father John also play a vital role in our St Barnabas' pastoral team.

The pupils also know that they can share any worries with any member of staff. They are also invited to identify two 'safe adults' at the beginning of term. These will be staff members they wish to speak with when they have a worry, concern or are feeling anxious.

Each class also has a welling box, where pupils can write down concerns should they feel unable to share them verbally. These are checked regularly and any worries dealt with immediately.

We also have an excellent Family Navigator - Gemma Folie - who is a great support to both pupils and parents/carers, should they need help and/or advice.  We also work with external partners such as MIND whose upport with pastoral care in school for both pupils and families.

If you need support or advice, please come and speak to a member of staff. The wellbeing of our parents/carers is also of great importance.
